The Friends of Crowborough Hospital own two vehicles: a Volkswagen Crafter 12 seater minibus which has been suitably adapted for people of limited mobility and incorporates a tail lift for those unable to manage the steps. The other vehicle is a Peugeot Expert which is fitted with a tail ramp and a winch so that wheelchair bound passengers can be carried.
Both these vehicles are operated by a dedicated team of volunteer drivers and passenger assistants. Normally these vehicles would be used to transport clients identified as being isolated and vulnerable to and from the hospital day centre where they can partake in a range of social activities. This also includes a meal. The service normally operates on a Monday and Friday but unfortunately due to the Covid pandemic these activities have had to be curtailed drastically. It is hoped to gradually resume the service as the situation improves.
The Peugeot is also used to to transport patients to and from physio sessions at the day centre.
